Horrible! Why do you need clinical for a BSN program, when your already a RN??? Not majoring in nurse informatics and they make you take a nurse informatics course that is extremely hard, failed it twice, I don’t recommend this school, I wish I went somewhere else

The first part of my experience at WGU was positive. In the beginning, it worked well because the classes are self paced and I was able to complete them in my own time. Navigating the home page and submitting assignments was easy. However, this school lacks transparency and honesty with their students. When I was applying, there was no mention of clinical hours and I chose this program because it was a great option for me with a full time job. I specifically asked about clinical hours because I knew... Read More

Just a warning. The recruiter will tell you they have resources to help you find clinical sites in the nursing program. They have no resources. You are 100% on your own to find clinical sites. In my case they rejected both sites I found. I ended up withdrawing because I couldn't sort out clinicals. The classes themselves are fine. The clinical situation is a mess.

Pros: Study at your pace, excellent mentor, quick services when there are any issues, they work with you, and the school as a whole is understanding/friendly people. Cons: Grading system! The professors do NOT grade the assignments. There are a separate set of people who grade the assignment. They are supposed to grade what is required, but they fail you each time because they unnecessarily require you to do more than what is required. I had to complain about this a few times. One professor said... Read More

Earned my RN to BSN in 4 months, including 80 clinical hours. I did have to find my own clinical site and preceptor, but that wasn't hard for me. I started looking as soon as I found out the requirements. I felt the class material and requirements were easy to follow. The rubrics were detailed so I always knew what they expected to pass. If you are self motivated and goal oriented this will work for you. If you're lazy, have a hard time focusing, or just aren't good at school then this might not... Read More

Overall I would not recommend taking the prelicensure BSN program at WGU in Utah. The clinical assignments were a joke. I was placed at psychiatric hospitals for over half of my clinicals, and 98% of my clinicals were night shifts. I understand that it is important for nurses to work night shifts, however, as a student I hardly learned anything at night since there was barely anything to do after 10 pm. It was made clear to me throughout the program that the clinical instructors and schedulers do... Read More

After getting accepted to the program I am finding things that a clinical field is required 75 hours. I was not told about it during the enrollment process. You are on your own to find your own preceptor and clinical field. If you don t find you lose time and money. They tell you that they help with "resources" which means they will send you the same web links to your email or phone conversation with the same information over and over. Course instructors are of no help at all. A few names to throw... Read More

WGU does not communicate pertinent information clearly to students, and it is unacceptable. Completing my bsn will be a benefit to me as a professional, however, I would advise others to seek a different school. There has been a significant change to a class that takes place in the last term, which changed the requirement to now include shadowing a nurse for 60 hours. (First of all...I am a nurse. That is pointless.) Previous to this the requirement was much more flexible. The biggest problem is... Read More

I started the WGU RN to BSN program on November 1, 2019. After starting the program, I had a lot of unexpected obstacles that I encountered along the way that would cause me to lose motivation at times. WGU may not work for everyone, but in my opinion, it really is a great school. It’s competency based, so there is no room for failure. There were assessments that I had to retake along with papers that I had to revise, but all in all it was a good experience. The program requires goal setting, dedication,... Read More

If there were a zero, that would be the rating. I should have listened to the other reviews that said not to attend this school. However, I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt and see for myself. Welp, I did just that, and unfortunately, the negative reviews are valid. I did the work, submitted it, it got sent back to me, I followed the "mentor's" instructions, it got sent back again, I made an appointment with the "instructor", I was sitting right by my phone when I missed her call (my fault),... Western Governors University is an university that is invested in the success of their students. I did not think that I would do well with taking online classes because I was so used to sitting in class and taking notes. It has been over 10 years since I have been in a classroom. I was afraid that I would just be a faceless number and get lost in the shuffle if I did not understand any of the material in class. I took an online class in the past and my experience was not positive. The class was streaming... Read More

I gained significant knowledge of the nursing profession through the BSN program at Western Governors University. Despite having been a nurse for nearly a decade, it was easy to return to school. The program allows for a good school/work/life balance. However, you must be self motivated. It is easy to fall behind if you cannot hold yourself accountable for the work that needs to be completed.

I'm very disappointed by the negative reviews I have read about WGU. I really am glad that I found this program. I hated the way I saw traditional nursing programs instructor belittle and intimidate the students which I knew at my age I wouldn't be able to take. I also wouldn't be able to do a traditional program with my financial and family obligations. I initially had trouble but soon learn to navigate the program and rules. I found that, if I wanted to succeed then I must take control of my destiny.... Read More

I just graduated in May 2018 from the ADN to BSN program and these are my thoughts. There is a very steep learning curve and a lot of it is self study. The courses are pretty straight forward, but it's very paper intensive. My first semester was the hardest because it's different than my ADN program in terms of studying. You need to be very disciplined. Thankfully, my student mentor was VERY helpful with supporting me. That was the key to my success. There is a misconception that the online program... Read More

The good: Cheapest by far at around 3K a semester. Will only cost me 12k as opposed to the average 18K plus. Course work 100% online and module based which means you have no mandatory times you must to something. You can do things based on your schedule. Very flexible. Staff is very helpful and polite and they offer a lot of services to individual course help lines to paper writing assistance. The bad: The Staff is too helpful. Mandatory phone check ins. If I have needs I can reach out. Time waster.... Read More

Update. I passed the NCLEX. My test stopped at 85. The Nclex has a minimum of 75 and a maximum of 265 questions. You have to answer 60% of your questions correctly to pass. If the test stops early, then either you did really good or you did really bad. I have only participated in WGU online nursing school. So I can't compare it to other Nursing programs. The other college experience that I had was at a traditional university, I did graduate from both. WGU is a TEACH YOUR SELF program. WGU gives you... Read More

WGU is a waste of time and money. I made it very clear to the enrollment counselor that I needed to take one class at a time. I am a nurse, working days and nights with three kids and a husband. She told me no problem. Little did I know that I would get charged for classes that I never took. I had a loan, and it took a long time for me to find my billing statement. Not once did I ever receive a bill from them. I ended up paying over $9000 for three classes. They enroll you in three classes at a time... Read More
